HCMUT Gold Medalist in 2022 November Graduation Ceremony, Ngo Hoang Bao Tran (K2018 English-taught Program in Chemical Engineering<\/a>) cherishes her university years:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The best years,” I call them, crediting the inspiring people I had a chance to meet. Especially the professors, shiningly exemplifying success after studying abroad, have ignited my desire to step outside my comfort zones and broaden my horizons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aiming for “setting sail for the wider world” since first year, I found myself actively partakening in oversea exchange and internship programs under the unwavering support of the External Relations Office. Provided were invaluable opportunities to hone my English skills and soft skills, approaching cutting-edge technologies, all while soaking up diverse cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The road to achieving dreams, however, was not without its bumps in the road. Balancing top grades, research, and extracurriculars with high standards proved exhausting. Time management became a constant battle, and there were times when 24 hours simply didn’t feel like enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As burnout emerged, it unintentionally distanced me from loved ones since studies and work dominated the schedule. This was looming large when juggling a demanding full-time job with grad school applications. Diving headfirst into learning my new role while prepping applications concurrently, burning the midnight oil regardless of breaks and weekends was no strange. It was during this challenging period that I solidified my belief in the saying for bravery and determination: Where there’s a will, there’s a way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I appreciate the unwavering support of my professors, friends, and senior colleagues at HCMUT during my academic journey. Their insightful guidance broadened my perspective across various domains.  A special gratitude goes to V\u01b0\u01a1ng Ho\u00e0i Thanh, a 2016 graduate of the Chemical Engineering program and current doctoral candidate at the University of California, Santa Barbara. I am inspired by his workstyles: meticulous and whole-hearted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is undeniable that the rigorous academic environment at HCMUT has shaped me into a resilient individual well-equipped to encounter future challenges. The English-taught Program curriculum is a robust foundation that enables me to confidently navigate the complexities of specialised English materials. Furthermore, the knowledge and skills from my international research experiences will undoubtedly be instrumental in helping me adapt to the doctoral program at Cornell University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nguyen Thanh Tho, the all-rounded freshman of the K2023 English-taught Program in Industrial Management<\/a>, shares her heartfelt reflection: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDares to live”, it sprung to my mind, when being asked to describe myself. It\u2019s all about the openness to actively seeking experiences and embracing the diversity of my community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With over 14 admission letters and scholarship offers in Vietnam and overseas, to me, HCMUT felt like a homecoming. Their core values \u2013 a symphony of liberal, pioneering, and creative education that sculpts responsible global citizens \u2013 resonated deeply within me. As someone with a firm aspiration for innovation aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, I found myself captivated by the School of Industrial Management program’s empowering curriculum. By blending technical knowledge with interdisciplinary management skills, it is a resourceful preparation for me to embrace the challenges and opportunities of the burgeoning circular economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It hits me that learning and contributing hold value regardless of location. As long as I cherish every moment, spread my energy, and pay it forward to the community that has supported me, then there won’t be a single regret looking back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Amongst efforts to balance academics, research, and extracurriculars, constant self-reflection plays a key role. “What’s the driving force behind this? Am I finding fulfilment in this pursuit? Can I optimise my approach?”. Critical thinking and delving into the core questions enable me to optimise my decision-making and stay on track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like in my favourite sport, volleyball,  triumph isn’t solely measured by individual brilliance. The secret lies in the like-minded collaboration and how teammates “lead the lit”. My journey is no different, as individual achievements hold the most meaning when they contribute to the greater good of the community. Likewise, my time at HCMUT represents an opportunity to learn, empower others, and together, create lasting milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new chapter at HCMUT, though daunted with challenges, solidified a beacon of hope. While the past successes are just a humble beginning, I truly strive to turn my university years into a fulfilling journey of unique experiences, shared alongside my beloved buddies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bui Thanh Duyen, a vibrant Gemini from the K2021 Japanese-oriented Program in Mechanical Engineering, shares her journey of self-discovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the early days, a lot of people called me ‘anh’ (bro) because of my short hair and that I dressed like a guy. It was a simple curiosity \u2013 what would I look like as a guy? Exploring all sides of myself is key, because only when you truly understand yourself could you map out the right path for your future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming a student of HCMUT opened the doors for me to showcase my identity and learn from incredible professors. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Tich Thien, while a bit strict and demanding, whole-heartedly cares about his students and is dedicated. He’s a versatile pro that any student would be lucky to have. Meanwhile, my class advisor, Dr.. Nguyen Thanh Nha, is incredibly kind and always cheerful and treats us like his own family. Can not forget to mention my project supervisor, Dr.. Nguyen Thai Hien, a friendly pro that makes our students feel empathised. With that, we are empowered with a supportive environment to develop our logicity and creativity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My journey has been marked by continuous learning, experimentation, and self-exploration to figure out who I am and what I want.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One time, my teacher encouraged me to give it a try at the 7th Southern Region Japanese Speech Contest 2024. Initially, I hesitated due to inconfidence.  But my teacher’s words goes “It’s okay, just give it a try and see how good you are”. My adventurous spirit kicked in, and I signed up. Surprisingly, I ended up representing HCMUTin the final round! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On competition day, I was a bundle of nerves. Some contestants froze on stage, speechless, while others rattled off their speeches like native speakers, which freaked me out even more. When it was my turn, I took a deep breath and went for it, relaxed and confident. My presentation went smoothly, and even though I didn’t snag a top prize, I was incredibly proud of conquering my fears. I realised that I would have missed out on this awesome experience if I’d let doubt hold me back. So, for anyone passionate about Japanese, don’t be afraid to take on challenges and compete, no matter your level. It’ll be an unforgettable memory!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like many people, I initially thought HCMUTstudents were just a bunch of bookworms. But that perception did a complete 180 when I joined the BachKhoa OISP Music Bank<\/a>. We weren’t just about shared love for music; we also collaborated to create mind-blowing, professional-level performances. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prepping for the B.O.M.B. Showcase took almost half a year, and I’ll never forget the cheering atmosphere while practising, and even some disagreements and arguments that almost made us ditch the whole act. But in the end, fueled by youthful passion, we all gave it our all on stage in Hall A5. Six months of hard work culminated in a few minutes of brilliant shine \u2013 a journey that felt both long and short, filled with a rollercoaster of emotions. It was a wave of happiness and immense gratitude that took me away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
