Bach Khoa University (Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City, abbreviated as VNU-HCM) has just become the first university in Vietnam and the third university in ASEAN achieved international standard of AUN-QA.
On January 22th 2018, VNU-HCM in collaboration with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) awarded the AUN-QA accreditation to the University of Technology.

With this result, Bach Khoa University – VNU HCM (officially called Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology) is the ONLY university in Vietnam that achieves two accreditation at institutional level:
- AUN-QA / ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance
- HCERES / High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education in June 2017.
The AUN-QA standard at institutional level includes 25 standards, 111 criteria, categorized into four groups:
- Quality assurance in strategy;
- Quality assurance system;
- Quality assurance in operating functions;
- Results.
The AUN-QA team reviewed the university’s activities, including:
- – Leadership and Management
- – Strategic Management
- – Curriculum Design and Review
- – Research Management
- – Research Collaboration and Partnerships
- – Community Engagement and Service.
In particular, among the AUN-QA criteria, activities include: Curriculum Design and Review, Research Management, Research Collaboration and Partnerships, Community Engagement and Service is considered as “qualified better than expected”.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2017, Vietnam’s higher education accreditation marks a milestone in the international and regional integration:
– The first four universities have met HCERES standard at international level: Ha Noi University of Technology, National University of Civil Engineering, University of Technology – University of Danang, University of Technology – VNU-HCM.
– The first two schools meet the AUN-QA standard at international level: University of Science – VNU-HN and University of Technology – VNU-HCM.
By 2020, all six member universities will be evaluated by AUN-QA.
