A interdisciplinary team of five students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUT, VNU-HCM) K2021 English-taught program has brought immense pride to the university. These students, Ho Tran Buu Phat, Nguyen Quang Dai, Le Ngoc Minh Thu, Trinh Tran Phu An (all majoring in Industrial Management), and Thai Nguyen Phuc (majoring in Chemical Engineering), secured the top honour at the 2023 GBA Business Challenge, a prestigious competition organised by the German Business Association.

Their innovative project, named Ensover, focuses on collecting water hyacinth, a fast-growing invasive plant in the Mekong Delta, and transforming it into eco-friendly paper. Buu Phat, the team leader, spearheads the administrative and strategic aspects of the project. Minh Thu manages market outreach and brand promotion, while Nguyen Phuc tackles the technical challenges of converting water hyacinth into paper. Quang Dai’s expertise lies in researching the product towards sustainability. Finally, Phu An ensures the financial stability of the project and drives its growth.
Throughout the process, they actively organised workshops and communication campaigns to raise environmental awareness among both students and businesses in Ho Chi Minh City, even collaborated with green organisations to develop additional sustainable products and services, demonstrating a holistic approach to environmental responsibility.
Understanding the power of interdisciplinary collaboration, Ensover actively sought guidance from professors within the Environment and Resources Faculty. This combination of diverse expertise proved key to their groundbreaking project.
The GBA Business Challenge, established in 2020, empowers young talent with innovative ideas and a forward-thinking mindset. Offering practical business experience, mentorship, and crucial startup funding, the competition serves as a valuable launchpad for budding entrepreneurs.
The 2023 edition kicked off in June and witnessed fierce competition from over 50 teams representing universities across Vietnam. After several rigorous rounds, the Final Round took place on November 6th, 2023, in Ho Chi Minh City.
Their victory translates to 200 million VND alongside a year-long mentorship program. This program will provide invaluable support in turning their innovative business idea into a thriving reality.
