Early April 2024 marks the honour of the Office for International Study Programs (OISP) to welcome the Japan Foundation (JF) representative on her visit and work trip at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam National University-Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUT, VNU-HCM).
The Japan Foundation (JF) [1] representative this time is Kurita Emiko, the Japanese language expert.
The meeting featured the campus tour, sharing on Japanese linguistic teaching at OISP in particular and HCMUT in general, as well as discussion on the university’s development orientation and future cooperation plans.
Currently, OISP is utilising the Marugoto textbook series – one of the textbooks sponsored by JF, for Japanese linguistic teaching in the Japanese-oriented Program. After one semester of operation, “useful, life-engaging, vivid visualisation that stimulates learners”, the Japanese Department reported about the material with high opinion. However, further adjustment is required for teachers to increase delivery compatibility with students’ level.
In the future, JF plans to organise method training in Japanese linguistic teaching at HCMUT, commencing with these on May 24 and 28. This activity, along with many grants from JF in recent years, has demonstrated the firm bilateral cooperation between OISP and JF.

HCMUT is one of the few engineering – technology universities that pioneer integrating Japanese into teaching and learning programs. Besides the Japanese-oriented Program, HCMUT has also implemented the Transnational Education Program to Japan since 2006. Its reputation has contributed to the growing Japanese-language student community at HCMUT and the firmly-connected HCMUT alumni network in Japan.
