Vietnamese Subjects Substitute For Political Subjects

Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology – Vietnam National University would like to announce that we are opening groups of 6 subjects to substitute group of political subjects for international students.

It is compulsory for Vietnamese students to study about the country political views & strategy as well as laws of the country. Yet, it is more essential for international students to learn more about our culture & the language rather than learning the politics. This is expected to diversify students’ experience and involve students deeper into an Eastern life style during their time studying here.

The subjects are planned as follows:

1. Vietnamese Language

The subject is designed to provide foreign students with the basic Vietnamese which could support them in everyday living and learning in Ho Chi Minh City. Students will acquire the theoretical and practice use of the Vietnamese language. When finishing studying the subject, students can communicate basically with the local people better and get deeper into the Vietnamese culture.

2. Natural, Human and Economic Geographic of Vietnam

The subject introduces the general picture of Vietnam geography, including the nature and economy – society. Students will be provided with the knowledge of the basic features of Vietnam Nature, the allocation of natural resources, the demography of Vietnam population and labour resources as well as the features and the allocation of the country production, from which students can have a deeper and clear perception of economy-society development resources in Vietnam. This would be supportive to student career, especially when they choose to stay and work in Vietnam as they can understand and apply the knowledge to into reality. 

3. Introduction to Vietnamese Culture 

The subject will provide students with the general concepts of Culturalism and Vietnamese Culture, of systematic compositions of Vietnamese Culture and its features. Students also will be prepared for the skills, methods to approach and discover, as well as study Vietnamese Cultural cases. 

4. Etiquettes in Vietnamese Culture 

With this subject, student will learn the perceptions of cultural etiquettes; the basic points of Vietnamese cultural etiquettes (which were affected by Confucianism, of Western cultures, of ethical villages, thick Yin and Yang cultures, etc.); the Vietnamese cultural etiquettes within the family (in wife-husband relationship, in parents-children relationship, in sibling relationship, etc.); and Vietnamese cultural etiquettes in communication. 

5. Cultural Communication in Vietnam

 Studying Cultural Communication in Vietnam will introduce students to General Communication (including the concepts, methods of study, the principles, etc.); Vietnamese Cultural Communication (including the platform creating Vietnamese communication specifications, features in cultural communication of Vietnamese people, etc.). Along with the theory, students are also prepared for essential communication skills practicing so that the students can emerge better and deeper into everyday living and studying in Vietnam as well as improve their lingual abilities in the long run.
