A VISIT TO HCMUT OF DR. JONATHAN MARGOLIS

On December 1st 2015, Dr. Jonathan Margolis – Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science, Space and Health (Department of State’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs) and the delegate visited HCMC University of Technology as a part of the series of encouraging scientific and technological collaboration between the States and Vietnam.

Associate Professor Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh – Rector of HCMC University of Technology, Dr. Vu The Dung – Vice Rector of HCMC University of Technology and other lecturers and professors coming from different faculties and departments warmly welcomed Dr. Jonathan Margolis during his visit.

This is the first time Dr. Margolis has come to HCMC University of Technology to learn about the education environment in Vietnam to encourage the education collaboration of STEM (Science – Technology – Engineering – Math. STEM is basically known as equipping learners of knowledge and skills essential for science, technology, engineering at math.)

At the meeting, Associate Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh presented to Dr. Margolis about HCMC University of Technology’s features and strengths as well as our achievements. They also discussed about the collaboration opportunities between the States and HCMC University of Technology in the long run.

 

That afternoon, Dr. Margolis had a talk with students of international programs of HCMUT about entrepreneur and the importance of innovation, creativity and development of a nation.

The entrepreneur topic successfully drew enormous attention of students. Lots of questions were posed and answered during the meeting.

In the meeting, he presented two short topics: “Why education should arise entrepreneurship for students?” and “Why the U.S. is considered the leading country of innovation and creativity?”. With his humorous and interesting speech, Dr. Margolis did a great job of inspiring our students with the entrepreneurship. He also pointed out some major obstacles and his experience of overcoming them, especially when it came to Vietnam.
