2016 HCMUT Commencement Day
The latest ranking of 400 universities in Asia by QS Rankings has just been announced and most noticeable, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City had jumped five ranks comparing to that of the previous year 2016.
For this intake of 2016, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University) has 3,371 full-time freshmen, including 3,184 students studying bachelor’s degree programs & 187 students studying associate’s degree programs. This has raised the total number of undergraduate, graduate and doctorate students up to 27,480 students.
At the Commencement Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Dinh Thanh, Rector of HCMUT, has awarded certificates and scholarships for 3 freshmen of this intake for their outstanding results in 2016 National Upper Secondary Examination, including:
– Student Nguyen Huu Tho, achieving 28.05 points (over 30 point-grading-scale)
– Student Nguyen Ho Minh Phuoc achieving 27.90 points
– Student Phan Minh Tan, achieving 27.75 points.
This improvement is from the efforts of all students, lecturers and professors of Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City.
Besides that, HCMUT also recognized and awarded 13 students having excellent performances in 2015 – 2016 academic school year. Ranked the second among the 13 top students, Le Van Vu, student of 2014 Intake studying international bachelor’s degree in Electrical – Electronics Engineering, achieved a GPA of 9.50.

In the school year 2015 – 2016, HCMUT students achieved excellent results in studying, scientific research. Students also participated in academic contests, namely National Olympiad, Student Scientific Research Award VIFOTEC, Eureka in the field of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Architects, Mechatronics, etc.
HCMUT students also lead in social activities, namely National Exam Support Campaign, Spring Volunteer Campaign, Blood Donation, and Green Summer Volunteer Campaign. Last July 2016, nearly 1600 volunteers including students, officers, and teaching staff participated in Summer Green Campaign in Ben Tre Province; Tra Vinh Province; wards on Tho Chu islands, Kien Giang Province; districts and wards in HCM City; and in Lao PDR. The total value of construction sites, social security projects, scholarships given, etc. is estimated to be over 23 billion VND.
Following the HCMUT Commencement Day was the OISP Welcoming Ceremony for 600 freshmen of Intake 2016 studying international programs and articulation programs at A5 Hall. With the pattern “Flight to the Dreams”, the ceremony brought up inspiration and motivation for the students through the heartening speech of Dr. Vu The Dung, Vice Rector of HCMUT cum Director of Office for International Study Programs (OISP), inspiring sharing from Ms. Tran Thanh Van – a favored vlogger, exciting art performances, interesting interactive games, etc.
