HCMUT – Bach Khoa has implemented activities to support online teaching and learning through the BK-Elearning site to protect students and lecturer’s health from the complex situation of COVID-19

As is known, the university has applied e-learning system through BKeL since 2007 with many features such as doing projects, homework, virtual group work, online marking, uploading lectures, forums for discussion between lecturers and students, etc. In response to the complex situation of COVID-19, the university has added more functions for the e-learning system, including creating new lecture in video with the duration of up to 10 minutes, which help students study more effectively with divided chapters or modules according to each subject. BK-Elearning platform has diverse features that help to promote communication and interaction between lecturers and students, efficiently supporting the training activities of the university. Some lecturers can use other virtual meeting applications to support their teaching such as zoom, WebEx, Google Hangout, etc.

Switching from offline to online courses due to COVID-19 is an opportunity for the university to implement several methods of modern teaching on the Internet, bringing to students robust learning experience, as well as ensuring the training quality at the same time. Vo Dinh Khai – taking the Textile Engineering, Intake 2017, said: “Online platforms are a familiar environment for many students. Without going to classrooms, students can still take nearly 80% of basic knowledge of the program, and then can learn more by themselves. The videos uploaded on BKeL by lecturers are brief, adequate in knowledge, exercises after 1 or 2 lectures to revise the knowledge. I hope that in the next semester, online courses will make up for 20% of the full-time courses, as well as 10-20% of our scores for each subject will be marked through online exams.”

Due to this situation, e-learning and teaching is an efficient choice at the moment. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thien Phuc – Vice President of HCMUT – Bach Khoa said: “In order to bring the best teaching and learning experience for lecturers and students, our university has always innovated and improved our features to support e-learning and teaching on the BK-Elearning platform. In the future, depending on the situation of COVID-19, the university has prepared well to upgrade the way of teaching and learning through the system of mobile studios. With this plan, teaching and learning activities at HCMUT – Bach Khoa – an engineering environment will become more professional and convenient.”
