NASA DATA MINING WORKSHOP IN HCMUT-BACH KHOA
NASA Data Mining Workshop serves for the observation and monitoring of Earth resources in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia.
On the afternoon of February 10, 2020 at Hall 204B8 – Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT- Bach Khoa) took place the conference “Data mining of NASA for observations and monitoring of Earth resources in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia”.
Attending the conference, on the side of NASA and Chapman University, the United States had Dr. Garik Gutman, Program Manager for the NASA Land-Cover/Land-Use Change (LCLUC) Program; Dr. S. V. Nghiem – the JPL Hydrology Discipline Program Manager of the Hydrology Office in the Earth Science and Technology Directorate; Dr. Menas Kafatos, Director of Center of Excellence in Earth Systems Modeling and Observations, Chapman University; Prof. Keun-Hang Susan Yang, Schmid College of Science and Technology, Chapman University; Dr. Lam Dao Nguyen, Director of HCMC Space Technology Application Center. On the side of HCMUT-Bach Khoa, there were Assoc.Prof. Dr. Le Minh Phuong – Vice Rector; Leaders of units, lecturers and students of the university.
Workshop “NASA Data Mining for observations and monitoring of Earth resources in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia”
The workshop focused on discussing the following groups of issues: Introducing the initial research findings of the research groups related to “Current land use status, changes and impacts in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. ”; Exchange research results to experts, international scientists, scientists, national experts, managers, lecturers, graduate students in Ho Chi Minh City and vicinity; Sharing NASA data for research on high-precision elevation models for Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta, rural-urban transformations, agricultural monitoring, geological change hydrology (river water relations, salinization, subsidence), catastrophes (storms, floods, forest fires), water and air pollution and their impact on the development of Ho Chi Minh City and surrounding areas and Mekong Delta…
Assoc.Prof. Dr. Le Minh Phuong – Vice Rector spoke at the seminar
The seminar is in the academic exchange activities, introducing the research results of the International Scientific Research Cooperation Project “Land Use Status, Change and Impacts in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos” between The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Vietnam Space Center and international research groups. The seminar also aims to enhance cooperation in academic exchange and research results of scientists of the HCMC University of Technology, the member universities of Vietnam National University-HCM, and domestic universities with scientists. from NASA, from international universities working in the field of remote sensing applications in Earth research.
Dr. Garik Gutman, Program Manager for the NASA Land-Cover/Land-Use Change (LCLUC) Program reported at the seminar.
It is known that discussions at the conference will lead to scientific research collaborations with defining methodologies, field adjustments, and applications from NASA satellite data. Furthermore, satellite observation priorities will be provided by the scientific community involved in this cooperation being reviewed by The Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) that the Vietnam Space Center ( VNSC) is currently a member.
