SMS Fire Alarm System made by HCMUT students

HCMUT CREATIVITY

Nguyen Van Len and Phan Thanh Phat, two students of HCMUT specialized in Electrical –Electronic Engineering successfully designed and made a new SMS Fire Alarm System.

When a fire occurs, the system will immediately send SMS to the manager and alarm signal on the spot.

ALARM IMMEDIATELY

The system includes surveillance cameras and photos processing softwares. It connects to a microprocessor that automatically control message module and send alarm signal the loud speaker.

When a fire detected, system will send alarm signal to the loud speaker and send location of the fire on Google Map to the fire-brigade. At the same time, it will inform to the manager.

Usually, the microprocessor is in “listen mode”. When it receives the signal of fire detected from system, signal will be send to SIM module to implement call or SMS to the manager. In case the call cannot be made, the microprocessor will continue send command to SIM module to call to backup number.

When signal is sent the firefighting center, SIM module will use GPRS data to transmit warning signal. Data transmitted to center include ID, location of cameras, location where fire occurs with scene pictures and the shortest way from center to the fire. ID is the identification information including coordinates, owner’s name and phone number registered at the fire fighting center.

ADVANTAGES

Most damage fires usually occur at night. However, it is time people sleeping, there is no warehouse, office, super market keeper, etc., so that leads to difficulty in fire prevention. In fact, there are many solutions to detect and warn of a fire such as temperature sensors, smock sensors, etc., However, disadvantages of these solutions are they only can detect a fire where it occurs near the censors, the accuracy is not high, the surveillance zone is small, causes investigation faces a lot of difficulties.

Moreover, the time rescue of firefighting force is too slow that also causes increasing damage by the fire. Because fire alarm solution primarily by phone takes much time to verify and obtain information, initial fire fighting work inefficiently… From this drawback, the research team uses the method modern image processing, which combining integrated transmission system to detect and warn of fire quickly with images. This allows system transmit “living proof” immediately to the nearest firefighting centers.

Besides, to avoid wrong identification of objects colored like fire, the group has applied the method to detect a fire under strictly conditions based on the information to learn from practice and evaluation. The team tested it by handling multiple video of the fires, the identification system is quite accurate even the objects colored like fire. In addition, the system’s cameras are IP cameras (internet connection) that help system control a wide area through the camera. The cameras are capable of turning many directions and from a server can manage multiple regions different unlimited distance.
