THE RENEWAL OF ABET ACCREDITATION FOR COMPUTER SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING AT HCMUT BACH KHOA
On the morning of October 21st, 2019 at 205A1, the opening ceremony of ABET re-accreditation for the two majors: Computer Science and Computer Engineering was held by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT).

Joining the re-accreditation this time are Mr. Daniel – Ohino State University, Mr. S.Hosein Mousavinezhad – Idaho State University, Mr. Mohammed Samaka – The College of North, Ms. Cathy Bareiss – The Bethel University, Mr. Raphael W.H.Wong.

Representatives from HCMUT include Assoc. Prof, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong – Rector, Assoc. Prof, Dr. Tran Thien Phuc – Vice Rector, Dr. Vo Dai Nhat, Head of Office of Quality Assurance, Assoc. Prof, Dr. Le Thi Kim Phung, Head of External Relations Office, Chairman of Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering and other lecturers.
ABET Re-accreditation delegates
Speaking in the ceremony, Assoc. Prof, Dr. Mai Thanh Phong welcomed ABET delegates and emphasized that ABET is a credible organization and supportive in accompanying HCMUT in maintaining education quality to prepare to go international.
In 2014, HCMUT is the first university to standardize for ABET in Computer Science and Computer Engineering and the accreditation has been valuable up to now. This time, HCMUT works to renew the ABET accreditation for these two majors.
From October 20th to 23rd was the period for assessment of the two majors, and on October 23rd, the re-accreditation officially came to an end.

The main activities in 4 days of hard-working consist of reviewing the report of self-study and supporting documents, interviewing people involved at the faculty levels including the dean and vice deans, representative of scientific council, heads of departments, representative of quality assurance board, lecturers, students, alumnus, employers; at the same time, a check of infrastructure, facilities and equipment, supporting services for academic and research activities and so on at the two campuses was also conducted.

At the closing ceremony, the delegates concluded, presented the overall report, mentioned the strengths, potentials, and aspects needing improvement of the two accredited programs. In general, ABET delegates appreciated the efforts of the two programs and highly rated HCMUT’s strengths in management systems, facilities quality, etc. Accordingly, the results will be announced when all of the next steps are finished.
