Vietnam has two more universities named in the QS rankings, bringing the total number of our country’s universities on this table to four. In particular, including the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM).
On the 4th of March, the prestigious university ranking organization QS announced the ranking results according to the scientific field, World University Ranking by Subject, 2020 of global higher education institutions. Scientific fields of four Vietnamese educational institutions ranked 251 – 600 in the world, including Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam National University Hanoi, Hanoi University of Science & Technology, and Can Tho University. Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho University are presented for the first time in the QS rankings in a particular subject.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject ranks the world’s top universities in individual subject areas, covering 48 subjects. The rankings aim to help prospective students identify the world’s leading schools in their chosen field in response to high demand for subject-level comparisons. The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 cover a total of 48 disciplines, grouped into five broad subject areas. In 2020, QS has ranked 1,368 schools from 158 countries.
In recent years, Vietnamese higher education has recorded a good impression and is presented on the world higher education map. With the advantage in the field of computer science and information systems, VNU-HCM is ranked in the group 551 – 600 in the world. With the recognition of QS, the position of VNU-HCM has been strengthened.
In addition, the second new factor is Can Tho University. With the strengths of agriculture and forestry, Can Tho University has no competitors in the same field in the four above mentioned universities. More than that, Can Tho University is also in the position that the leading universities in Vietnam have to dream of: groups 251 – 300.
The results of this ranking are evaluated based on 4 criteria, including Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Research citations per paper and H-index measuring both the productivity and impact of the published work of a scientist or scholar. These criteria have different weights for each field. This year, 22 million scientific publications and 200 million citations were analyzed by QS to give data for this ranking.
