PGS.TS. Mai Thanh Phong đã có bài phát biểu đáng nhớ dành cho các tân kỹ sư, cử nhân chương trình Chất lượng cao, Tiên tiến vào thứ Sáu 10/7/2020 tại Trường Đại học Bách khoa (ĐHQG-HCM).
Hiệu trưởng Trường Đại học Bách khoa bày tỏ niềm vui khi chứng kiến 83 sinh viên chương trình đào tạo chính quy quốc tế (các khóa 2015, 2014. 2013) đã hoàn tất chặng đường học tập đầy thú vị và thử thách tại Bách khoa, và chúc các tân kỹ sư, cử nhân gặt hái nhiều thành công trong công việc và cuộc sống. PGS.TS. Thanh Phong đồng thời tri ân các bậc phụ huynh đã tin tưởng trao gởi cho nhà trường cơ hội được đào tạo, trui rèn con em trong môi trường giáo dục quốc tế.

Dear our honored guests, colleagues, graduates, and family members!
It’s truly a pleasure to be emerged in this extremely emotional atmosphere covering this hall where you are about to become fresh graduates from our university.
On behalf of the university, I’m honored to extend a very warm welcome to you all at our graduation ceremony today.
Dear Parents,
Quý Phụ huynh kính mến,
Probably, you are wondering where the years have gone, as you are still marvelling at your sons’ and daughters’ accomplishments. It seems like just yesterday when your little children started their education at kindergarten, but now they have grown up and become new engineers and bachelors from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
Có lẽ ngay phút này đây, Quý vị còn chưa hết ngỡ ngàng trước sự trưởng thành vượt bậc của con mình. Mới ngày nào đây, những đứa con bé bỏng ấy chập chững những bước đi đầu tiên đến trường mẫu giáo, nay đã vụt lớn thành những cô cậu tân kỹ sư/ cử nhân của Trường Đại học Bách khoa.
I can say that experiencing an almost 20-year academic journey including 03 years at kindergarten, 12 years for general education, and at least 04 years at our university and obtaining such achievements is challenging to both Parents and Students.
Vượt qua chặng đường hơn 20 năm để rạng rỡ có mặt nơi đây thật không dễ dàng gì, đối với các bậc Phụ huynh lẫn các em Sinh viên.
For that reason, we’d like to appreciate all Parents trusting and giving us a chance to educate and train your elite children into intellectuals in an international environment. Your constant encouragement and nurture have significantly contributed to your children’s great achievements today.
Vì lẽ đó, tôi – Hiệu trưởng Trường Đại học Bách khoa – xin thay mặt nhà trường – chân thành cảm ơn quý vị Phụ huynh đã tin tưởng trao gởi cho chúng tôi cơ hội được đào tạo, trui rèn các em trong môi trường giáo dục quốc tế, góp phần giúp các em trở thành những trí thức ưu tú của xã hội. Chúng tôi ý thức được rằng, những đóng góp của nhà trường chỉ là một phần nhỏ bé so với công sức của các bậc làm cha, làm mẹ đã bỏ ra chừng ấy năm. Một lần nữa, chúng tôi xin tri ân quý vị Phụ huynh.
Hi all beloved Students. I’d like to say that you have accomplished one stage of your life which has been filled with colorful, and even up-and-down days. Now, you may feel mature in this university, but you may be called newbies in the society as you have just taken the very first step to the school of life.

The last 06 months was challenging, not only to you, your family, our lecturers, our staff but also to the whole country. We have been fighting against the CoVID-19 pandemic which has changed all the academic plans, shuffled our daily life, or even frozen the economy. However, it is fortunate that no new positive case of CoVID-19 has been recorded for more than 80 days.
Graduating from HCMC University of Technology when our country is facing numerous challenges from the Industry Revolution 4.0, you are holding such precious opportunities to build the country.
Being the generation born in the technology era, being “nurtured” by digital devices, artificial intelligence, virtual interactions, social networks, you – the Youtubers, Facebookers, Instagramers – hold the whole world in your hand at the touch of a button. I, as well as your Parents, have witnessed the incredible changes which we had thought that these amazing things could happen only in science fictions.
Hence, you are holding the key power to create innovative solutions to global aching problems, such as environment protection, global warming, sustainable development, alternative sources of energy. Those are the facts that we, the predecessors, could just call them by name.
You are global citizens who have a variety of professional opportunities, recreational trips and activities to explore the world and this may take you to the furthest of the Earth and beyond. Wherever you go, whatever you choose to do, I ensure that your world will change with how determined you are to pursue your imaginations, your dreams, and your passions.
But what if you don’t know where to go and what to do or what if you find out that you are going on the wrong track or doing the wrong thing? Keep calm, take some time to be reflected, and start another new road.
Today, I can feel your joyful sentiments when I have seen you prepare for this ceremony. I have seen the moments when you have helped straighten the caps and gowns of each other. I have seen you hugging friends – the signal of enduring and everlasting friendship. I have seen you hugging your Lecturers – the signal of gratitudes and thankfulness. Also I have seen you hugging your family – the action of love, care, and celebration. I have seen all of you cheerful for your accomplishments.
When you leave the university, please keep your enthusiastic energy to care for yourself, for your family, your friends, and your whole new world. Last but not least, may the joy, the happiness, and the healthiness be always with you.
Before I leave the stage, I would like to ask our fresh graduates to make a big applause for your Parents, for your Lecturers who have been with you to reach this milestone.
